Guatemala Finca Santa Isabel

Guatemala Finca Santa Isabel

We love sourcing new season beans from farms we’ve been buying from for a few years now and Guatemala’s Finca Santa Isabel feels like something of an old friend. If ever a coffee made us think of the sweet days of summer it would be this bright, peachy Guat.
The Valdés’ family history with Santa Isabel dates back to 1875 when Luis Valdés’ great-grandfather first bought the 300 acre estate. Luis and his son Wicho have put in years of dedication to improve cultivation techniques as well as perfecting drying practices and have been placed in Guatemala’s Cup of Excellence twice.
The humid climate of Cobán province has its challenges – annual precipitation on the farm is some 3,500mm – that’s significantly more than Scotland’s
West Highlands! – so the coffee is dried first on patios and in greenhouses before being finished off in mechanical driers. We love the fact that much of the farm is dedicated to reforestation and Wicho’s innovative pruning schedule has helped reduce leaf rust on the farm resulting in a dramatic reduction in the need for fertilisers and pest control.
The coffee is now up on our website and if you’re in Aberfeldy this week come by our Roastery to say hi and try a free sample on batch brew.
